My studio is a beautiful place, but lately it made me a little restless. Spring cleaning and a bit of tidying was necessary. But that wasn’t enough, as the place needed to be spruced up with a bit of paint. You can sit down in your studio and act as if you don’t see it, but that doesn’t work for me – hence the restlessness. So I made a plan and went to work. I’m very happy with the result: it’s light, clean, and tidy. It’s a joy spending time there again – but at the moment only during the weekend, as there’s more work to do!
The bathroom is finished, and work has started in the living room. Last week we first emptied the bookcase and cleaned all shelves and books. It made the room look like a battlefield: books were strewn all over! We gave ourselves the challenge that half the books could be put back. The shelves needed to become lighter and more playful, by placing nice objects inbetween all the books. This gives me a good excuse to do some object hunting at carboot sales again! Although the shelves aren’t completely finished, we are very happy with the result so far. Now we just need to find a good home for the rest of the books :).
When I’m doing a mundane task such as cleaning, I always get the urge to change something with the interior as well. I love changing things, so it’s a reward after all the hard work of cleaning and sorting through stuff. I do need this, as it creates a balanced environment which inspires me to create beautiful things. One thing definitely has to do with the other!
