We hope that you are all well and healthy. Despite all goings on, we’re blessed with good health and all is wel here with us. These are strange times, and it is giving us time to reflect on how we live, our place in the world, and the things that simply do not work for us any more. How we’ve been treating this beautiful planet has caused imbalances in more than one way. This forced global pause, however sad the cause is, is showing us that we can do differently. So once this is all over, we hope that balance will be restored, and that we learn from how we have been forced to change our ways during this time.
In our own personal little world, the gardening season has started again! With most of the big jobs done, and having benefitted from recent rain, our plants appear to have done their best at growing quickly. We wanted a little more herbs to use in the kitchen, so we needed to make a small adaptation in the garden. This meant expanding: we dug up some stones, put fertile ground in its space, and viola – we have extra space! The roses and boxwood bushes are the largest jobs in our garden. A good clipping makes them eager to blossom more, and our rosebushes are filled with buds! We need to have just a little more patience and then it will be a sea of roses – a joy for both eye and nose!
After a long time I’ve started working on making dolls again. There were some unfinished dolls lying in the studio, so I started working on them. And it gave me back the joy of modelling in clay. I luckily kept all of the materials (you never know what you might need it for) except for clay, which we had to order. As soon as that arrived, I started working with it, and I had a great time making the first doll’s head again!
In the photo below I’m holding a dolls head that I made some 25 years ago. She always lived in my studio, and every once in a while I’d give her a different wig to wear. Part of me must have wanted to keep her around, because I never gave her a body to become a full doll – which would have meant that she could have been sold. But now it’s time for her to grow up. As soon as she’s complete, we’ll share her with you here!
