September’s come and gone, and what a beautiful month it’s been! We’ve had sunny weather, a perfect month to take out the bikes, enjoy the lakes, forests, and all the beautiful things we see on our way. Despite us knowing the surroundings here pretty well, it always remains special going out and seeing it. Take for instance the goat that we ran into, and posed for the camera to show off its beautiful horns!
Another great thing about this month is the harvests from local gardens. When cycling, we pass many homes and farms where crops are offered along the road: beautiful fresh fruits and vegetables found their way in heavily filled panniers! And then the joy of getting home and putting all that goodness on the table. We got some beautiful apples a while ago, which we turned into a quick and easy apple pie. You can find the recipe here.
Next door, I bought a beautiful old earthenware pot from my neighbour who has a lovely bric-a-brac shop. It’s so battered, and has such a beautiful patina, that I instantly fell in love with it. The colour is just perfect, a wonderful earthy ochre. I’ve been falling in love with this colour recently, and it’s slowly sneaking its way into our home. The pot is a very painterly object. It’s currently ‘traveling’ through our home to find the right spot, but I’m sure it’ll find its perfect spot soon!
