We’ve been back home for three weeks already, but we often think back on our time in Yorkshire. York is such a fantastic city with beautiful medieval streets, gorgeous shops, little galleries, and several fantastic museums. We were very glad that we were able to visit the York City Art Gallery again. It had been closed for several years because of a large renovation, but last year during the summer it opened its doors to the public again. The result is very wonderful, and we enjoyed the beautiful art inside. The ceramics exhibition at the new Centre of Ceramic Arts (CoCa) was truly very special – so much amazing pottery all gathered in one place.
York has got a lot to offer to foodies also. One of our favourite places to go was the Goji cafe, a vegetarian & vegan cafe restaurant where we had a wonderful meal. One thing that makes this place truly special is the huge offering of vegan cakes… yum! It’s tricky to get anything vegan in the area we live, so this was a real treat for us. You’ll probably understand we had to visit this place several times to sample all of their cakes… 😉
About half an hour by train from York is the beautiful market town of Knaresborough. It is always special to be here. We walked along a winding path from the top of the town all the way down to a quiet spot along the river Nidd. It has a very serene and magical atmosphere. Along the riverbed you can find many shards of antique ceramics, which Coos fished up for us. They’ve now found a special spot on a small table in our home. Lovely memories to a wonderful visit.
And then came the day that we had to say goodbye, off to a final day in London. Coos came along with us, as he wanted to show us Tate Britain. The museum is truly magnificent, we enjoyed it so much. It was very special to see the works of art that you know from books in their full glory. After our visit we had a nice little city walk, grabbed a bite to eat, and then it was time to head back to the hotel. Coos dropped us off at the train the next day, which meant goodbye. Thank you boys for a fantastic and inspiring holiday!
