About two weeks ago I got the tidying bug. So I went up into the storage areas and cupboards and found lots that needed clearing. And not just putting one thing from one place to another, trying to find an excuse (“I can probably use this sometime!”), but really get rid of stuff. Most of the time that doesn’t happen. I need courage to get rid of stuff, and courage I had that day, because we got rid of a lot! But every so often I’d come across something that I’ve got too much attachment to. One of them was a little doll, dressed by Jacob when he was about 10. It’s wearing a little crochet hat, jacket, and a wonderful pair of trousers reaching to its knees. So beautiful and sweet, so I thought “you’re coming down with me!”
I also found my first mask doll – made from a clay head that I modelled first. I wasn’t very happy with the result at the time, and moved it from my studio into the storage space. Throwing her away wasn’t an option as she had something. Now that I felt inspired by Jacob’s little doll, I decided to do something with it. I took some thick yarn, and made a crochet jacket and hat, and just like Jacob’s doll, I used some pink thread for the edges. I gave the doll a new body and skirt, and now I’ve got a new doll. These two dolls will remain together now, a happy end!
We also decorated the Christmas tree – earlier than ever before, but the days seem to pass so quickly, we wanted to fully enjoy it this year. And it’s so cosy with the dark setting in early again. The rest of the house is also a little christmassy – just some baubles and decorations here and there, and lots of candles. Enjoy the photos, and we want to wish you a very Merry Christmas, and a happy 2017!
With love,
